The San Antonio Independent School District is investigating an incident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon in one of their schools, with the office involved currently on paid leave while the district investigates.

The district said the student started arguing with the officer and, at some point, allegedly hit him in the head. What happened afterwards is what was caught on cell phone video.

Footage shows the officer struggling to subdue the girl, before the officer appears to throw a punch, landing on the girl’s face.

Witnesses agree that the student was resisting arrest, but was apparently running for a bus when she was detained by the officer. However, a spokesperson for the district has said the student was arrested for interfering with the duties of a public servant and assault on a public servant.

“What it tells us is we need to fully investigate this,” said SAISD spokeswoman Leslie Price. “We have one piece of video we’ve been sent and that we are looking at and we want to fully understand what all occurred and put this all into context and understand if appropriate procedure was followed.”

While the investigation continues, the school and police have called for more footage to be surrendered. The police officer, a 4-year veteran, and is now on leave while the district continues to investigate.
